Souths Logan Magpies' players and staff wrapped up the year on a high note, continuing their longstanding tradition of giving back to the Brisbane and Logan communities through their support of the annual Micah Projects Christmas Hamper Appeal.
For many years, the club has proudly partnered with Micah Projects to make a meaningful difference during the festive season. Each year, the Souths Leagues Club transforms into a bustling hub of activity on Christmas Eve, filled with hundreds of volunteers and dedicated Micah staff. The Christmas Hamper Appeal is a vital initiative aimed at spreading holiday cheer by providing essential grocery items and children's toys to disadvantaged families and individuals who may be facing financial hardships over the holiday period.
This year, the impact of the appeal was more significant than ever, with over 1000 hampers delivered. This was made possible from donations of roughly 19,000 grocery items and $37,000 in funds raised. These hampers, filled with everyday necessities and festive treats, help ease the financial burden that many families experience during the holiday season.
Souths' players and staff were hands-on throughout the event, contributing their time and energy to make the day a success. From packing hampers with essential items to personally delivering them to families in need, everyone involved played a crucial role in bringing a bit of holiday magic to the community.
The Christmas Hamper Appeal is more than just a one-day event; it’s a reflection of the values that both Souths and Micah Projects hold dear. By coming together, players, staff, volunteers, and supporters have shown that even small gestures can have a lasting impact, especially during a time of year that can be challenging for many.
Souths Logan Magpies CEO Steven Bretherton expressed his gratitude to everyone involved, saying, “We’re incredibly proud to support the Micah Projects Christmas Hamper Appeal once again this year. Seeing our players and staff come together to give back to the community is something that makes me very proud as a CEO. It’s a reminder of what the holiday season is really about.”
As the 2024 season has come to a close, Souths players and staff look forward to continuing their community outreach efforts in 2025, building on their strong relationship with Micah Projects and ensuring that the spirit of giving remains at the heart of the club’s values. The annual Christmas Hamper Appeal stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to support one another, and Souths are proud to play their part in spreading kindness and holiday joy.
