Round 6 Match Review

Sunday's clash against the Western Clydesdales was a tale of two halves and a showcase of just what this Magpies side is capable of when they find their groove.

The first half was one to forget for Magpies fans. The Clydesdales came out swinging, running in four unanswered tries through Denzel Burns, Kaden Buhse, Christopher Woodbridge (twice) and Marcus Spence to lead 24-6 at the break. It was a horror start, and the Magpies had serious questions to answer.

They answered them emphatically.

Leading the charge out of the sheds was Mitchell Owen and what a second half it was from him. Owen was everywhere, breaking the line twice in quick succession. His first try in the 47th minute got the Magpies on the board, and before the Clydesdales could settle, he was over again in the 58th minute. Owen finished with two line break tries in the second half, and his relentless work with the ball in hand was the heartbeat of the Magpies' remarkable comeback.

Kingstimer Paraia had earlier crossed just before the break to give the Magpies a foothold, and the momentum only grew from there. Phranklyn Mano-Le-Mamea added another in the 52nd minute from a perfect kick by Anothy Milford, before Floyd Aubrey levelled the scores in the 65th minute. When Harry Walters crossed in the 70th to put the Magpies in front for the first time, it was on.

Mano-Le-Mamea sealed the deal late, finishing off a Mitchell Owen line break to make it 34-24, capping one of the most stunning second-half turnarounds of the season.

A 34-24 win. From 24-0 down. The Magpies are well and truly alive and ready to head into three consecutive games at home.
