Round 17 Match Review

Round 17 Match Review

Sunday’s away clash against the Brisbane Tigers was a game the Magpies will want to learn and fight back from quickly.

The Magpies made the brighter start, Floyd Aubrey finishing off a Callum Eggerling line break in the 11th minute to lead 4-0. But the Tigers hit back and never looked back. Mitchell Spencer crossed in the 25th minute to level, before Bennett Leslie, Samuela Vakadula and then Vakadula again crossed in quick succession to have the Tigers leading 18-4 at the break. A damaging half that left the Magpies with plenty to do.

The second half told a far better story. Jack Anderson broke the line in the 47th minute, Anthony Milford converting to make it 24-10, before Harry Walters crossed in the 57th to bring it back to a converted 24-16. The Magpies were building and the Tigers were wobbling.

But Esom Ioka crossed for the Tigers in the 67th minute to push the margin back out to 28-14, and a late Zach Lamont penalty goal sealed it at 30-16.

A tough result away from home, but the second half performance showed the Magpies remain a dangerous side. Despite the scoreboard, Sunday was a special clash, falling within Indigenous Round. Both teams ran out in special Indigenous Jersey’s with artwork created by Indigenous Artist, Tayah Parsons. Read more about Tayah’s story here!
