Round 15 Match Review

Round 15 Match Review

Saturday's Rivalry Round match against Norths Devils, was a statement performance from the Magpies, who controlled large portions of the game before holding on for a hard-fought 20-14 victory.

There were a few things making this day a very special one despite the unwelcome visit from the relentless rain. The grounds were buzzing with familiar faces as the game fell on our annual Old Boys Day. Fans were also met with a delight as Billy Walters took to the field for his first game back of 2026.

The Magpies were sharp from the opening whistle. Mitchell Owen broke the line inside three minutes to open the scoring, Hayze Perham converting to make it 6-0. Billy Walters on his return then crossed in the 11th minute, Perham again adding the extras to have the Magpies out to a commanding 12-0 lead.

The Devils steadied and hit back. Tahrell Feaveai crossed in the 17th minute before Tony Tumusa added another in the 23rd but without the conversions, the Magpies head into the sheds 4 points ahead. A Perham penalty goal just after half time nudged the Magpies further in front and from there it was a tense and physical contest that could have gone either way.

Kane Rushton crossed for the Devils in the 58th minute to level at 14-14, and with the game in the balance, the Magpies dug deep. Floyd Aubrey crossed in the 66th minute, Perham converting to make it 20-14, and the Magpies defence held firm through a tense final period to see the game out.

20-14. Back to back wins against rivals Norths on Old Boys Day. Come back to the nest next Sunday to watch as they take on the Dolphins!
