Friday night our Tilermade Hostplus Cup squad made the 3-hour flight to Port Moresby to take on the PNG Hunters in Round 12.
The conditions were fine at the Santos National Football Stadium and the field was set for a big day of footy. Israel Leota kicked off the scoring with an impressive dive over the corner post unfortunately not converted. Hunters answered back with a converted try shortly after.
Magpies rallied for a second try with a kick from Jack Smith before Radean Robinson chased it down. Kobe Black successfully converted the try brining the score to 6-10 to Magpies.
Magpies maintained the momentum, gaining a 22 point lead heading into half time.
The point scoring continued in the second half with hunters brining the score to 22-42 to Souths. Magpies fatigue was evident in the last 10 mins with Hunters scoring 3 tries in the final 15 minutes however, Magpies were able to hang onto their lead to walk away victorious with a final score of 36-48.
