Last Friday our Tilermade Hostplus Cup squad took the trip to Townsville to face Northern Pride at Queensland Country Bank Stadium. The boys had the opportunity to play before the Cowboys V Tigers game during the NRL Indigenous Round.
The game kicked off at 3:00PM and Souths were off to a slow start, giving away a penalty within 2 minutes. Pride kept the momentum rolling securing a 24-0 lead in the first 30 minutes of play. Kobe Tararo answered back breaking Pride's defensive line with a flick pass to Callum Eggerling before passing to Ethan Quai-Ward on the wing securing the 4 points. Converted by Brandon Finnegan brining the score to 24-6.
Souths kept the momentum rolling with Blake Moser making a run from Dummy Half and scoring under the posts. Brandon converted once again bringing the score to 24-12. Pride regained their momentum and scored 2 more tries in the beginning of the second half before VJ Semu got Souths back on the board. The back and fourth continued throughout the second half.
The final score of the game was 40-22 to Northern Pride. Souths have room for improvement heading into Round 12 in PNG.
