Souths Logan Magpies proudly announces an exciting three-year partnership extension with Marsden State High School, set to continue bringing high quality statewide Rugby League to Logan.
The agreement will see Souths hosting games at Marsden’s state of the art facility, welcoming Tweed Heads, Toowoomba, Redcliffe and Norths in the early rounds of the 2025 season. These games will include our Junior Representative Boys and Girls’ teams alongside our Hostplus Cup.
Building on our success from the 2021 and 2022 seasons, we’re thrilled to be back at Marsden and bringing our signature Magpie flair to Saturday nights in Logan.
Current Souths Logan Magpies CEO Steven Bretherton had this to say when asked about the move back to Marsden.
“With the challenges of creating a game day experience that our supporters deserve at the Logan Metro, the move back to Marsden felt like a positive on many fronts. Having been Hostplus Cup Coach during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, I can say firsthand how much our players enjoy playing at what is regarded as one of the best facilities in Logan.
We look forward to creating a similar atmosphere to what was provided at Logan Metro, with DJs, professional ground announcing, flame throwers and our famous XXXX Can Bar. External of Rugby League, we are thrilled to continue offering real-world experiences for all Marsden State High Students,” Bretherton said.

Marsden State High have established themselves as a leader in the Rugby League space among Secondary Schools through South-East Queensland. Aligning themselves with a Statewide QRL Club has provided an opportunity to streamline Junior Pathways and provide unrivalled support to students when embarking on this journey.
Through this strong community bond, Souths have had the opportunity to grow the partnership beyond Rugby League and support a number of other areas of the school. At the forefront of this has been the Marsden Hospitality and Arts Programs. On a number of occasions Souths have engaged hospitality students to gain industry experience at our annual Networking and State of Origin Luncheons, serving over 220 guests in a formal setting putting their skills to the test.
The existing partnership with Marsden has been ongoing for many years and has strengthened the support systems available to young males and females coming through our Junior Pathways. Marsden SHS Executive Principal Marcus Jones was asked to give his perspective on the relationship between the school and Souths.
“The partnership between Souths Logan Magpies and Marsden State High School is a longstanding and diverse relationship that continues to thrive, benefiting both organisations in many ways. While Souths Logan is the school’s official Statewide QRL partner, the connection goes well beyond Rugby League. Souths Logan and Marsden State High collaborate across various areas in the school, including hospitality, catering, and service, offering students valuable hands on experience in these fields. Musical performances are another highlight, with students given the chance to showcase their talents at games, gaining exposure and confidence in front of crowds. Marsden’s talented first nations students contribute artwork, such as designs for the First Nations Round, to be proudly worn by the team during 2025. The partnership further supports the development of students’ Rugby League skills, with both organisations working together to provide coaching, training, and opportunities to excel.
Souths Logan has been a strong supporter of the school, helping to ensure that Marsden’s students have access to fantastic opportunities both during their time at school and after they graduate. With the exciting news that Souths Logan will be playing some of their home games at the Shark Tank in 2025, this partnership is set to grow even further, providing more ways for students to excel academically and in their extracurricular activities. Be sure to pop down to the games, check out the amazing students in the canteen, and say hello. Together, Souths Logan and Marsden State High School recognise that this ongoing relationship plays a crucial role in the future success and development of our future,” Jones said.
