Karmichael Hunt secures another two years as head coach of Hostplus Cup for the Magpies. In 2026 Hunt will embark on his fourth season as Head Coach and his sixth year at Souths. Hunt has been at the helm of a young developing team and the Club is looking forward to another year of growth within the group under Karmichael’s guidance.
In his comments, Souths Logan Magpies CEO Steven Bretherton, reflected on the season, emphasising both the progress of the current squad and Hunt’s important contribution.
“Although we are disappointed to not be playing finals football, we feel the current core playing group are heading in the right direction. Although only at the beginning of his coaching journey Karmichael’s experience in elite Australian sporting codes is a valuable asset that is rare to find in a coach at our level. Upon reviews of our 2025 season, we have identified some things in our entire football department structure that we will look to improve upon, thus bringing more consistent results on the football field.”
Looking ahead to 2026, the Magpies are confident that Hunt’s leadership will continue to strengthen the foundations of the Hostplus Cup program. With a developing core of players and a clear vision for growth, the club is committed to building sustained success on and off the field.
Beyond results, Hunt’s influence has been instrumental in fostering a strong team culture and guiding the next generation of players coming through Souths’ pathways. The club believes his ongoing leadership will be key as the Magpies strive for greater consistency and push towards finals football in the coming seasons.
Karmichael has expressed his eagerness to grow his coaching prowess as he heads into year four as head coach.
"I'm excited to be continuing my coaching journey at this great club. I'm really looking forward to continuing the growth of our football program, which will hopefully one day be the pinnacle of the competition again," he said.
