Last Sunday, February 22, the Souths Logan Magpies welcomed the Brisbane Broncos to Davies Park for an exciting pre-season trial match, marking an early highlight of the 2026 season.
The atmosphere began building well before kick-off, with fans streaming through the gates eager for their first taste of footy in 2026. The grounds buzzed with excitement, where an array of food trucks were ready to satisfy the cravings of the fans. Our iconic can bar wasn’t the only place to quench your thirst, for the first time we hosted a Stone and Wood pop up bar for fans to perch up on the hill to get ready for the highly anticipated kick off.
At 2:00pm, our Tilermade Magpies took to the field ready to test themselves on the big stage. The game got off to a kick start when fan favourite Jesse Arthars crossed for the opening try, igniting the crowd early. While the Broncos showcased their class throughout the contest, the Magpies’ spirit and determination were on full display.
Pride Petterson-Robati sparked momentum for the home side with the Magpies’ first try, before Prinston Esera followed up with another just before halftime, giving the crowd plenty to cheer about heading into the break.
At halftime, Davies Park transformed into a sea of excitement as young fans were invited onto the field. Even club mascot Swoop joined in the fun, throwing passes and entertaining the crowd.
The Broncos gained the upper hand in the second half, but the Magpies continued to fight hard, adding two more tries before full-time from the likes of Hayden Rowbotham and Callum Eggerling.
It was a fantastic day at Davies Park, a celebration of community, football and the season ahead. Events like this are made possible thanks to the dedication of our team and volunteers, the commitment of our players, the support of our partners, and, most importantly, our loyal fans.
