In an exciting 80 minute contention, Magpies finished strong with an 30-18 victory over the top 4 team.
With the return of Broncos affiliate players, Ben Te Kura, Israel Leota and Coby Black, the Magpies were back at full fitness for the weekend's clash with the Sunshine Coast Falcons at Davies Park.
It was a thrilling game right from the kick off. Falcons crossed the line first with a runaway try down the wing proving their strength as a premiership contender. However, Magpies answered back with Ben Te Kura forcing his way across the line for a try in his first game back from a Lisfranc Injury obtained in Round 9.
The excitement didn't end in this Round 22 clash as Magpies fought to hang onto their lead throughout the game. A converted try by Brandon Finnegan in the 65th minute secured the boys' win but unfortunately will not be enough to secure them a top 8 spot this season.
2025 has proved to be a tough season for Souths with plenty of injury among the camp. Hostplus Cup Head Coach Karmichael Hunt already has his sights set on preparation for next season.
Hunt expressed "it was really pleasing to get a positive result in front of our family, friends and fans on the weekend but It was also a reminder of how frustrating the season has been for us, with plenty of good results against quality teams but also too many poor results mixed in between.
"Once our season ends this weekend, we’ll all agree that we failed to meet our expectations however, one of the bright spots will be that we were able to blood some exciting prospects who will no doubt play an important role in our success next season. "
Hunt will coach his current team through one final game this Sunday at Davies Park against the Ipswich Jets for the QRL Turn to Me Round. We're expecting a great day at our spiritual home with activations from the White Cloud Foundation and our Partners at McDonald's Logan.
