Souths faced the Brisbane Tigers in a rain-soaked Round 6 clash at Totally Workwear Stadium over the weekend, with the wet conditions setting the tone for a tough and gritty contest. Despite a spirited defensive performance from the Magpies who racked up over 300 tackles, it was the home side who came away with the points, securing a 26-14 victory.
From the opening whistle, it was clear the weather would play a major role. Heavy rain made ball-handling difficult and forced both teams into a more physical, territory-based battle. Souths showed plenty of resilience, repeatedly turning up in defence under relentless pressure.
The Tigers dominated the first half, piling on 14 unanswered points before the break. They extended their lead to 26-0 early in the second half before the Magpies finally broke through.
Floyd Aubrey sparked the Magpies’ fightback, crossing in the corner off a sharp cut-out pass from Anthony Milford. He followed it up with a second try, keeping the momentum alive and giving Souths a glimmer of hope.
Despite their determined second-half efforts, the Magpies couldn’t claw their way back, with the Tigers’ defence holding firm to close out the match.
With a bye this weekend, the Magpies will have time to regroup and reflect on recent performances before returning home to face the Central Queensland Capras in Round 7.
