BMD Round 8 Match Review

BMD Round 8 Match Review

Back at Davies Park, the BMD team produced their best performance of the season, running riot over the Tweed Seagulls in a 46-12 demolition that showed just how far this team has come.

The Seagulls actually struck first, Alyssa Davis crossing inside the opening minute to make it 0-6, but the Magpies steadied quickly. Te Rina Pearse got them on the board in the 10th minute, Mamele Misa crossed in the 20th to nudge the Magpies in front at 10-6, and Kiarah Siauane extended the lead to 16-6 in the 29th minute. The Seagulls hit back late in the half through Kaliyah Browning to make it 16-12, and that's how it stood at the break, the Magpies narrowly in front after an arm-wrestle first half.

The second half was where the game was won. Mamele Misa grabbed her second in the 37th minute, Tori Groves Little crossed in the 40th, and Kiarah Siauane bagged her second in the 43rd to push the margin out to 30-12. Mamele Misa completed her hat-trick in the 53rd minute, Amanii Misa crossed in the 58th, and Tori Groves Little rounded out the scoring with her second right on full time to bring up the emphatic 46-12 final.

Nine tries to two tells the story. Mamele Misa's hat-trick led the way, and the Magpies pulled away in the second half after a tight arm-wrestle in the first. A complete team performance from front to back, and if this team plays like that in the second half every week, they're going to be a serious problem for anyone left on the draw.

Beyond the epic scoreline, around the grounds it was a special day. Celebrating Women In League Round, the Magpies wore their 'Pink Jerseys' in support of Small Steps 4 Hannah, where each match worn Jersey was auctioned to raise vital funds for the cause. Brisbane River Zonta joined us to put on a sausage sizzle, kids colouring in and a raffle, raising funds to support Domestic Violence.
