Indigenous Round away against the Tigers was a real arm-wrestle that ultimately slipped away late, going down 32-24 in a match they led for large stretches.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 8-0 lead through tries to Rosa-Millan Lefono and Layla Satui, but the Magpies hit straight back. Kiarah Siauane crossed in the 15th minute and Skyla Adams' conversion had it at 8-6. The Tigers extended through Narikah Orchard to make it 14-6, before the Magpies produced a strong response of their own. Jasmine Solia finished off a break to make it 14-10, then Joeannah Naime crossed to level things up at 14-14. Adams' boot gave the Magpies their first lead of the afternoon, 14-16, and that's how it stayed at halftime.
The Magpies came out firing in the second half, Shaianne McGlone crossing early to push the lead out to 14-20. From there the Tigers dug deep, hitting back through Pauline Piliae-Rasabale to close it to 18-20. Te Rina Pearse's try just after the hour mark had the Magpies looking to put the result to bed at 18-24, but a costly sin bin to Harlem Walker swung momentum right back the Tigers' way. Tahlia Marshall, Aleksandra Tunufai and Enah Desic all crossed in a brutal 10-minute stretch to finish, and Piliae-Rasabale's boot sealed the 32-24 scoreline.
Tough one to swallow given how well the girls played for large parts of this game, but there's no shortage of positives to take out of it. Leading a quality Tigers side for most of the match on away turf, shows exactly where this team is heading. The composure late in the tackle count is the next piece of the puzzle, once that clicks, results like this turn into wins.
