Match Review from the Nest
The weekend saw us head to Bishop Park to take on the Norths Devils.
It turned out to be a fantastic day for the club with both the colts and cup sides recording convincing victories. The colts won their 5th game in a row, by a score line of 40-22, while the cup side secured a 42-20 victory. It’s always great when you can go on the road and win both grades away from home.
The cup side put together, without doubt, their best half of the season, in the first half against Norths, taking a 36-6 lead into the sheds. Our dominance was built on the back of a high completion rate and a great kicking game from our halfback Sam Scarlett, which continually turned Norths around.
Collectively we were all disappointed in our second half, however. We came out of the sheds very flat and produced a very pedestrian half of footy. To Norths credit, they started the second half with a lot of energy and put us under a fair bit of pressure and I was disappointed that we seemingly put the cue in the rack at half time. It would’ve been great to back up our first half performance with a dominant second half, but it wasn’t to be.
This week sees us travel up the coast to take on the Sunshine Coast Falcons. It’s going to be a massive challenge up there, as the Falcons are a good footy side, but I’m hopeful our guys will take a lot out of our first half performance from the weekend and give them the belief, that on the back of a high completion rate and a patient approach, we can put any side away.
We haven’t won back to back games so far this year, so it would be nice to get that monkey off our back this weekend.
