Match Review with Coach Josh Hannay

Sunday saw all 4 grades play at Davies park in what was a great day overall for the Club with our Cyril Connell and mal Meninga sides both recording wins over the easts Tigers and the Intrust cup side securing an outstanding win against the Redcliffe Dolphins. I was extremely proud of the performance of our cup side. At one stage in the first half we were behind 14-0 and at one point in the second half we fell behind 18-6 but to the players credit they never panicked and stuck to the plan. After weathering a challenging First hour of the game, we completely dominated the last quarter of the game and if not for the final pass going astray on a couple of occasions, we could’ve kicked clear even further. Redcliffe have come in to this season like any other as one of the fancied sides and they will be tough to beat throughout the season with the quality they have, so for us to win in the manner we did should give us great confidence and self-belief heading into this week’s encounter against the Townsville Blackhawks up in Townsville. Playing Townsville this week means we will have played the “top 3” most fancied sides to win the competition in the first 3 rounds, and it’s a challenge that we as group have firmly embraced and we see it as a real opportunity to see where we are at as a squad. I believe our players will certainly be up for what will be a massive challenge playing Townsville, but we can go up there full of confidence on the back of yesterday’s great win.
