The week that was…
While last Weekend was very taxing on the group with the amount of travel required to and from Julia Creek, it certainly was a great experience for some of the younger members of our team who had not experienced a country week before. As usual the hospitality of the Organising Committee and indeed the town, was first class and Country Week is one of, if not, the most important dates on the Intrust Calender each year. To see the lengths people in the bush have to go to, to participate in rugby league, is an absolute credit to their commitment and resilience and each year country week continues to offer the high quality of football to people who don’t have the regular opportunity to see these games live. The game itself showcased our level of football and was a very close game from start to finish, with our boys getting a couple of late tries to finish on top of the Tweed team. It was also great to see Sammy Scarlett in game 2 of his comeback, receive man of the match. We all know Sammy’s ability and it’s great to have him back for the back end of the Season, playing good footy, as we head into finals.
Things are still pumping at the Nest. With a new work for the dole program starting this week, works will include an upgrade to the outdoor toilets, landscaping and block work, along with the final works in the courtyard. While we have been awaiting final council approval for those works, we are confident we will have that resolved by the end of August.
Have a great Weekend! Don’t forget we have 2 more home games left this year, Round 23 against the Easts Tigers & Round 24 against The CQ Capras! Make sure you save the date and come support the Magpies as we push forward to our first finals appearance since 2012.
Until next week…
