Wow! What a game. What a way to break a 5 year losing streak against Wynnum at Kougari.

While a lot of attention and deservedly so will go to Leon Panapa for kicking the winning field goal with a minute left on the clock, the entire side deserve credit for what was a hard fought, gutsy win against a quality, desperate opponent in Wynnum.

I can’t speak highly enough of the effort of our middle. I thought they were thoroughly dominant against the Wynnum pack and they certainly laid a great platform for us as a side.

I felt like we were well on top for most of the day but our dominance never materialized on the scoreboard. Largely in part to Wynnum’s desperation and scramble and also a little bit of bad luck with some calls and bounces of the ball that went against us.  2 of Wynnum’s 3 tries came from kicks and both were fairly opportunistic where luck played a big part.

Hopefully yesterday’s result and the way in which we won can give us something to build on in the coming weeks.

Turning our attention to this week, we return home to take on the inform Burleigh Bears. They have been one of the form teams to start the season and we will need to play well to get the points against what is a quality football side.

As I’ve said all along though, I’ve got great confidence in what our side is capable of and the potential that exists within the group, and if we can play to our potential, I’ve got no doubt we can come away with a win.

I hope to see a good crowd down at Davies Park on Sunday to cheer the boys on.
